Headquartered in Seattle, WA, Starbucks is the premier roaster, marketer and retailer of specialty coffee in the world, operating over 23,000 stores in 75 countries. Starbucks Canada consists of over 1,300 outlets and its approach to elevating the brand across retail and channel development requires constant innovation and a growing store footprint across the country. To implement the resulting store construction programs, Starbucks needed as-built surveys for a wide variety of spaces including renovations, relocations and space takeovers. In addition to AutoCAD drawings, Starbucks also required Autodesk Revit models for all surveyed locations.
Starbucks Canada engaged DedON and its integrated onsite-profiling platform to obtain as-built surveys before commencing the planning and implementation of renovation, relocation or space takeover project. To obtain a clear understanding of the implications of the proposed work and specific areas at the subject properties, DedON developed three custom work scopes based on the site components that should be most closely reviewed and documented.
DedON’s site survey professionals visited all sites and created complete and comprehensive reports that included accurate as-built drawings, existing assets, status verification and references of all relevant areas, including fixtures and equipment in locations scheduled for renovation. Where required, DedON field agents performed surveys during regular business hours, working around customers so that business was not interrupted. DedON’s Store Planning team subsequently used the AutoCAD drawings to create Revit models.
The documents that originated from the process were delivered in a user-friendly format that can be shared among internal and external teams of the different projects in a variety of formats and channels.
Starbucks team was very happy with the final deliverables. The accuracy and quality of DedON’s work empowered Starbucks team to make informed decisions when designing fixtures for their new, and existing stores. This resulted in savings which they could re-invest in future Projects. Starbucks now has accurate and comprehensive information available in a database that allowed its team to achieve cost savings. It also gave Starbucks the capability to leverage existing infrastructure, promote value engineering and allow for capital and expense control plus budget and schedule adherence.
